[Scientists have managed to develop the lightest material on earth. Made from 90% nickel and consisting of 99.9% air, the material named “ultralight metallic microlattice” can easily balance on top of a dandelion without crushing the seeds. Tobias Shandler, one of the scientists, said the trick is to “fabricate a lattice of interconnected hollow tubes with a wall thickness 1,000 times thinner than a human hair.”] (via) - clavicola:

Life-Altering Energy Conversion Machine of the Day: From Japan’s Blest Corporation comes a revolutionary Mr. Fusion-like device capable of returning plastic material back to its original form: Oil.

From OurWorld: Blest’s conversion technology is very safe because it uses a temperature controlling electric heater rather than flame. The machines are able to process polyethylene, polystyrene and polypropylene (numbers 2-4) but not PET bottles (number 1). The result is a crude gas that can fuel things like generators or stoves and, when refined, can even be pumped into a car, a boat or motorbike. One kilogram of plastic produces almost one liter of oil. To convert that amount takes about 1 kilowatt of electricity, which is approximately ¥20 or 20 cents’ worth.

Burger King Introduces A ‘Musical Shower’ Booth At Their New Restaurant In Tokyo
Apparently the American fast food giants haven’t had the best of luck in Japan, but after withdrawing from the market a while ago, Burger King is back with a new ‘upscale’ joint in Tokyo that also introduces their first ‘Musical Shower’ booth. Instead of a jukebox you’ll find an iPod/iPhone dock embedded in the wall that let’s you play your own music as loud as you want it.
But what makes the system particularly neat is the use of a special speaker/reflector hanging above the table which pretty much ensures that only the people sitting in the booth can hear the music being played.

Custom Built Motorcycle of the Day: Isn’t it about time you purchased your very own custom-built street-legal Tron Light Cycle? The folks at Parker Brothers Custom Choppers certainly think so!
The Parker Brothers team is building 5 custom one off “Lightcycles” to the exact specs of the movie bikes. Each bike will be black with an accent color - 5 bikes with 5 different accent colors (red, blue, yellow, green, and orange). There will only be one bike made per color so if you must have a certain color, you better call now. This is a first come first serve project so don’t delay. Disney designers built a “movie prop” of this bike for the TRON Legacy promotions and not a running version so these will be the only known running versions to exist. The engineering behind a fully functional version is mindboggling to say the least.
Pick one up now for only $35G’s. Impenetrable wall of colored light sold separately. [geekologie.] via - thedailywhat:

Life-Altering Wristwatch of the Day: ADR Studio’s mouthwatering timepiece comes complete with mouthwatering specs: 16GB of storage space, WiFi and Bluetooth, remote syncing with your Apple PMP of choice, and a built-in LCD projector.
Sadly, the iWatch is merely a fictional concept at the present time — designed on a dare to imagine the most surprising new tech to be unveiled at WWDC 2010 — but if you want it bad enough, it may just come true. via - [technabob.] - thedailywhat:

Wow, the Philippines has a satellite? wooooaaaaa… nice nice nice
Infographic of the Day: “Big Brothers: Satellites orbiting Earth” by Michael Paukner.

What’s up there? How many countries have stuck satellites up into space, how many of those satellites are working, part-working or just bits of junk? This graphic may help to enlighten you.
